Case Studies

Our case studies provide you with an overview of some of the various partners we have helped. As always, please contact us for more information and specific references. We are more than happy to provide as many references as you like from our client base.

Case Study 1

An 8 screen movie theatre location had to purchase additional ice on the weekends, almost any time of the year, because their ice production would not keep up with business demand.

An analysis was done by Maximicer to understand the relationship of weekday to weekend attendance and the location’s ice production and ice storage capacity. A carbonation test of the fountain drinks was also performed to determine the carbonation level of the drinks served.

The analysis showed that the location’s ice production was capable of meeting the demands during all attendance periods however the ice storage capacities were insufficient. The dispensed drink carbonation level was also found to be at a 2.8 volumes of carbonation (3.15 volume is a minimum acceptable level) and drink temperature was at 41 degrees F. (Drink temperatures below 40 F have higher carbonation and hence, better taste. The backroom C02 regulator and gauge were operating correctly and was set at 105 psi.)

One option was to purchase a larger storage bin for the ice machine however space in the backroom was limited. The other option was to place Maximicers on the beverage dispensers. The test results for the first weekend after installation was that NO additional ice needed to be purchased. Through the next several months of summer, again, no additional ice purchases were made.

A follow-up carbonation test was made and the drink temperature was found to be at 38 degrees, a 3-degree (over 7%) improvement while carbonation level increased over 10% to 3.2 volumes.

The benefits for this customer;
  • No more unnecessary expense for additional ice purchases.
  • Critical space was saved in the back room.
  • Improved drink quality!
  • Satisfied consumers!
  • With the reduction of ice melt on the cold plate, additional savings could be achieved by not having to change the water filters as frequently.
  • In this case study, a return on investment of less than 3 months was realized.

Case Study 2

A very busy fast food hamburger chain used mechanical prechillers to chill their soda water after the carbonators and before the cold plates of the beverage dispensers.

Their goal of using the mechanical prechillers was to ensure quality of the dispensed beverages by lowering the incoming soda water temperature thus meeting draw performance demand. By lowering the incoming water temperature, they would also be melting less ice on the cold plates.

The mechanical prechillers take up precious space in the backroom. Besides, with electrical, water and sewage costs continuing to rise, the operating costs and service of the mechanical prechillers was of concern and caused alternative options to be considered.

The account’s action plan was to perform a test and remove the mechanical prechiller and install a Maximicer on each of the 3 dispensers, 1 drive thru and 2 dining room units. They also installed a Maximicer on the ice machine.

The goal was to determine:
  • If the temperature of the drinks remained between 35 and 38 degrees.
  • If carbonation levels would stay at current levels (3.2 volumes to 3.5 volumes).
  • If ice production would be effected.
  • Potential savings on utilities (electric, water and sewage).
After several weeks of Maximicer products in place, the results were:
  • The temperature of the drinks remained at the desired level between 35 and 38 degrees.
  • With the Maximicer installed very close to the cold plate rather than in back room as the mechanical prechillers were, carbonation levels increased an average of 8%.
  • On the ice machine, the cycle time was reduced by 18% or 6 minutes per ice drop.
  • At this location, the estimated utility savings were over $1,000 per year and potentially one or more service calls on the prechillers. The ROI for this location was calculated to be less than 16 months.
The client concluded that this test was a success and is in the process of eliminating mechanical prechillers throughout the chain and replacing them with Maximicers.
